Description
  • Mechanical Technician Wheels/Tyre Department

    (Tyre / Automotive Industry)

GI Group are hiring on behalf of our client in the tyre and automotive industry for a Technical Lead/Mechanical Technician.

This is an exciting opportunity for a technically skilled, hands-on professional to take ownership of a growing department and play a key role in shaping its future.

    Salary: €45,000 – €60,000, depending on experience

    The Role

We are seeking a hands-on, technically capable individual with a strong background in agricultural machinery and mechanical systems.

The ideal candidate is just as comfortable on the workshop floor as they are working with technical drawings and specifications. They will have a natural ability to understand how components fit and function—particularly in relation to wheels, rims, and agricultural equipment.

This role focuses on ownership, technical expertise, and process development, rather than people management initially, with strong potential to grow into a leadership position over time.

    Candidate Profile

We are looking for someone with strong technical capability and a practical mindset. Experience working with agricultural machinery, mechanical systems, or engineering environments will be highly valued.

The successful candidate will bring initiative, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to help build structure, efficiency, and quality within the Wheels Department.

    Background & Experience

    • Experience in an agricultural, machinery, or mechanical environment
    • Hands-on experience with:
      • Tractors, farm equipment, or heavy machinery
      • Wheel, tyre, or rim-related work (advantageous, not essential)
    • Formal or informal engineering knowledge (apprenticeship, training, or hands-on experience)
    • Comfortable reading and interpreting:
      • Technical drawings
      • Measurements and specifications
    • Previous experience in a workshop, production, or technical service environment

    Skills & Strengths

    • Strong mechanical and technical understanding
    • Ability to interpret orders and translate them into accurate outputs
    • High attention to detail, especially around fitment, sizing, and specifications
    • Organised and structured approach to work
    • Comfortable handling multiple jobs and prioritising workload
    • Ability to contribute to improving systems, processes, and workflow over time

    Key Responsibilities

    • Take full ownership of the Wheels Department and support its ongoing development
    • Manage incoming jobs and ensure efficient turnaround times
    • Interpret and work from technical drawings, specifications, and measurements
    • Create and maintain accurate records and documentation for work completed
    • Take ownership of wheel and rim jobs from start to finish
    • Support the development and improvement of systems, processes, and workflow
    • Maintain high standards of quality, accuracy, and organisation across all work

    Personality & Traits

    • Practical and grounded, with a hands-on mindset
    • Takes ownership and pride in their work
    • Naturally proactive and self-motivated
    • Strong problem-solving ability
    • High work ethic with a focus on quality and efficiency
    • Good communicator, particularly with workshop and floor staff

    Future Potential

This role offers strong long-term potential. As the department grows, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to take on increased responsibility in areas such as team coordination, process development, and overall departmental leadership.

    In Simple Terms

We’re looking for someone who understands machinery, can read and interpret technical work, and can take ownership of wheel and rim jobs from start to finish—while helping us build a more structured and efficient department over time.
