Job Title: Senior Accountant / Accounts Manager
Location: East Galway – office based
Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: Competitive, commensurate with experience, with performance-based bonuses.

Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic and highly technical Senior Accountant / Accounts Manager who thrives in a fast-paced professional environment and is passionate about both compliance and advisory work for our client in East Galway. This role involves managing a team of accountants, reviewing financial statements, overseeing tax compliance, and supporting client relationships at a senior level. The ideal candidate will be as comfortable leading a team as they are diving deep into the detail of a set of accounts or advising a business owner on tax efficiencies.
Responsibilities:

  • Lead the preparation and review of year-end accounts, management accounts, VAT returns, and corporation and income tax filings.
  • Maintain excellent relationships with a portfolio of clients through regular contact, advice, and proactive support.
  • Be the go-to expert for clients with complex technical queries on tax, compliance, or reporting matters.
  • Provide advisory services such as cash flow planning, profit improvement, and restructuring.
  • Manage, support, and develop junior and intermediate accounting staff, including performance reviews and technical training.
  • Ensure high standards of accuracy and compliance through structured review processes and coaching.
  • Foster a collaborative, problem-solving environment where staff are encouraged to develop professionally.
  • Work closely with the Partners to identify growth opportunities, improve internal systems, and deliver strategic projects.
  • Play a hands-on role in business development, including proposals, onboarding, and new service lines.
  • Implement and optimise workflows using best-in-class accounting and cloud tools (Surf, Relate, Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, etc.).


Requirements:

  • ACA / ACCA / CPA qualified (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 4 years’ recent experience in an Irish accountancy practice
  • Excellent technical knowledge of Irish GAAP, Corporation Tax, Income Tax, and VAT
  • Demonstrated experience managing a team and a portfolio of clients
  • Highly proficient in cloud-based and traditional accounting platforms
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and document management systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Commercially minded, detail-oriented, and highly organised Desirable Experience
  • Exposure to specialist sectors such as construction, hospitality, or medical
  • Involvement in implementing digital transformation or internal process upgrades
  • Experience delivering internal or external training sessions
