Summary of Role:
Become a key part of our family-run hardware business in Athlone as Yard Manager, overseeing the day-to-day operations of our busy yard facility. You’ll play a vital role in maintaining a safe, organised, and efficient yard environment, supporting our team and customers, and ensuring our high standards are met. Responsibilities:
- Manage and assist with all daily yard activities, coordinating workflow to ensure smooth operations and timely service.
- Organise vehicle movements, deliveries, and collections, supporting both customers and suppliers for maximum efficiency.
- Oversee stock control in the yard, ensuring inventory is managed accurately and products are available when needed.
- Take full ownership of health & safety standards, enforcing compliance across all yard operations, conducting regular checks, and arranging relevant training for staff.
- Monitor equipment usage and proactively arrange maintenance and repairs to avoid downtime.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and secure yard, implementing processes to enhance orderliness and security.
- Lead and supervise the yard team, fostering a positive, productive atmosphere aligned with our family business values.
- Liaise with customers, suppliers, delivery drivers, and store management, delivering high levels of service and communication.
- Assist customers with loading and unloading, always prioritising safety and efficiency.
- Support company initiatives such as sustainability measures and community events, ensuring the yard contributes positively to our local reputation.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in a yard, logistics, construction, or warehouse environment.
- Supervisory or management experience strongly preferred.
- Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
- Excellent understanding of health & safety regulations and their practical application.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, outdoor environment.
- Forklift licence is essential; additional machinery experience an advantage.
- Reliable, self-motivated, and committed to maintaining high operational standards.
- Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and take initiative.
