Design Engineer

Location: Limerick

Gi Group is partnering with a major engineering contractor to hire a Design Engineer for upcoming Uisce Éireann projects across the region. This position is ideal for someone who wants to play a key role in progressing essential water infrastructure works from early concept right through to construction delivery.

Role Overview
As a Design Engineer, you will contribute to the development of high-quality design packages, working closely with a multidisciplinary engineering team. You’ll support the full design lifecycle, carry out technical assessments, and ensure all design outputs meet the required safety, environmental, and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce and develop detailed design documents, drawings, and technical specifications.
• Ensure all designs consider safety, environmental impact, constructability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Work collaboratively with engineers, project managers, and wider project teams.
• Engage with clients, stakeholders, and site teams to gather information and validate design intent.
• Complete site inspections and assessments to support design decisions.
• Identify opportunities for innovation and sustainable design solutions.
• Stay up to date with relevant standards, technologies, and best practice through ongoing CPD.

Skills & Experience Required

• Proficiency with AutoCAD and ArcGIS is essential.
• Prior design experience on Uisce Éireann or similar utilities projects.
• Strong ability to develop practical, effective design solutions.
• Confident working both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Strong problem-solving capability and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills and a motivated, proactive work approach.
