Title: Goods Inwards Operative
Location: Athlone
Salary: 30-33k per annum

Summary: Join a friendly, family‑run hardware store in Athlone as our Goods Inwards Operative. You’ll be the first point of contact for incoming stock, ensuring deliveries are accurately checked, labelled and stored so the sales floor and trade teams always have what they need. This is a practical, hands‑on role with clear routines, immediate impact on store efficiency and strong opportunities to learn and progress within a close‑knit team.

Responsibilities

• Receive and unpack deliveries: check quantities and quality on arrival against delivery notes.
• Verify goods: identify and report discrepancies or damage to the manager and suppliers.
• Record stock: update inventory records/stock system promptly (use of handheld scanner or basic IT).
• Label, sort and store: place items in correct locations using FIFO principles and maintain clear location labelling.
• Support shop floor: assist colleagues to replenish shelves and prepare customer orders as required.
• Maintain stockroom standards: keep storage areas clean, safe and well organised; follow H&S and manual handling procedures.
• Handling equipment: operate pallet truck/manual handling aids safely (training provided if required).

Requirements

• Strong attention to detail and good organisational skills.
• Basic IT skills for stock checking and record‑keeping (experience with EPOS/stock systems is a plus).
• Previous experience in a retail goods‑in or warehouse role preferred.
• Comfortable with physical work and manual handling; able to lift moderate weights.
• Reliable, punctual and works well as part of a small team.
• Good communication skills and a practical, problem‑solving approach.
